Key Learning Outcomes

This digital workshop, delivered over the course of two morning sessions, focuses on the Numicon Breaking Barriers and Numicon Big Ideas publication. It is designed to give you the opportunity to:

  • Develop an understanding of the Numicon manipulatives and how they make abstract mathematical ideas real and ‘visible’;
  • Experience the Numicon approach in action and consider how it can successfully support the learning needs of children who have not yet met key age-related objectives;
  • Understand more about the barriers to mathematics some children may face;
  • Discover how Numicon Breaking Barriers and Big Ideas support the assessment and reteaching of key mathematical ideas from Years 1-3/P2-4 and Years 4-6/P5-7;
  • Discover useful ideas and strategies which can be applied back in your classroom.

Agenda

  • Introduction to the Numicon manipulatives
  • Prerequisite skills for success in early mathematics
  • Barriers to success in mathematics
  • Key mathematical ideas with Numicon
  • Increase teacher confidence in how to support the learning of children working below age related expectation and those with SEND

Session 1 - 10th September - 9.30-12.00 (GMT)

Session 2 - 24th September - 9.30-12.00 (GMT)

Remote Training

Split across two half-days, our new remote training allows you to access the same Numicon workshops as before – only virtually and without the travel costs. Book onto this course and receive links to two interactive Microsoft Teams workshops, led by an expert Numicon consultant. You’ll have plenty of opportunities during both sessions to try out activities, ask questions and speak to Numicon users from other schools.

Who should attend?

Head teachers, Subject Leaders, SENCOs, teachers and TAs working in special schools and anyone teaching and supporting children with maths difficulties.

Registration

Once you have booked your ticket all delegates will receive a link to the digital sessions via Microsoft Teams. The link will be sent the day before each session is due to take place so please keep an eye on your inboxes and check your junk folders. You will also receive a breakdown of the content in each session, as well as a list of resources or materials that you will need.
